Leadership & Management

DISTINCTIVE is a multi-disciplinary collaboration of 10 universities and 3 key industry partners from across the UK’s civil nuclear sector.

DISTINCTIVE is structured to facilitate and promote world-class research relevant to nuclear waste management and decommissioning, ensuring that the UK remains at the cutting edge of technology provision to the industry.

The research leadership and management team have the responsibility for delivering against the objectives of the consortium to guarantee that the research performed meets the needs of the UK industry in this area.

Leadership and management team structure

  • The leadership team are all distinguished researchers in their respective fields, with a significant track-record of working on topics of direct relevance to the major aims of this consortium, and training of postdoctoral research associate (PDRA) staff.
  • The management team are leading academics with extensive records of involvement in collaborative projects with the nuclear industry.
  • Representatives from industry partners and complementary international research activities will support the research objectives of the programme through participation in the International Advisory Board.
  • The programme builds upon and consolidates the successful work of a previous RCUK Energy programme in the same field, known as DIAMOND (Decommissioning, Immobilisation And Management Of Nuclear wastes for Disposal), grant number EP/F055412/1.
